Downloading and Installing Lightwright ​

This guide walks you through downloading and installing Lightwright on your Mac or Windows computer.

Download Lightwright ​

Step 1: Access the Download Page ​

  1. Visit the Lightwright website
  2. Click the Download button in the navigation menu

Step 2: Choose Your Platform ​

Select the appropriate installer for your operating system:

  • macOS (Apple Silicon)
  • macOS (Intel)
  • Windows: 64-bit installer for Windows 10/11

The website will automatically detect your operating system and highlight the recommended download.

Step 3: Download the Installer ​

  1. Click the download button for your platform
  2. The installer will begin downloading to your default Downloads folder

Installation Instructions ​

macOS Installation ​

Step 1: Open the Installer ​

  1. Locate the downloaded file: Lightwright-[version].dmg
  2. Double-click to mount the disk image
  3. A new window will open showing the Lightwright application

Step 2: Install the Application ​

  1. Drag the Lightwright icon to the Applications folder
  2. Wait for the copy process to complete
  3. Eject the disk image by clicking the eject button in Finder

Step 3: First Launch on macOS ​

  1. Open your Applications folder
  2. Locate Lightwright and double-click to launch
  3. If you see a security warning:
    • Click Open to proceed
    • Or go to System Settings → Privacy & Security → Click "Open Anyway"

Step 4: Complete Setup ​

The application will launch and guide you through initial setup.

Windows Installation ​

Step 1: Run the Installer ​

  1. Locate the downloaded file: Lightwright-Setup-[version].exe
  2. Double-click to run the installer
  3. If Windows SmartScreen appears, click "More info" then "Run anyway"

Step 2: Installation Wizard ​

  1. Click Next on the welcome screen
  2. Read and accept the license agreement
  3. Choose installation location (default recommended):
    • Default: C:\Program Files\Lightwright
  4. Select additional options:
    • ✅ Create desktop shortcut
    • ✅ Create Start Menu folder
  5. Click Install to begin installation

Step 3: Complete Installation ​

  1. Wait for files to be copied (typically 1-2 minutes)
  2. Click Finish when installation completes

Step 4: First Launch on Windows ​

  1. Double-click the Lightwright desktop shortcut
  2. Or find Lightwright in the Start Menu
  3. Windows Defender may scan the app on first launch (this is normal)

Silent Installation (IT Administrators) ​

macOS Silent Install ​

hdiutil attach Lightwright-[version].dmg

# Copy to Applications
cp -R /Volumes/Lightwright/Lightwright.app /Applications/

# Unmount
hdiutil detach /Volumes/Lightwright

Windows Silent Install ​

cmd
# Run installer with silent flag
Lightwright-Setup-[version].exe /S /D=C:\Program Files\Lightwright

Updating Lightwright ​

Automatic Updates ​

  • Lightwright checks for updates on launch
  • Click Update when prompted
  • The app will download and install updates automatically

Manual Updates ​

  1. Download the latest version from the website
  2. Install over the existing version
  3. Your data and preferences are preserved

Uninstalling Lightwright ​

macOS Uninstall ​

  1. Quit Lightwright if running
  2. Drag Lightwright from Applications to Trash
  3. Empty Trash to complete removal

Windows Uninstall ​

  1. Close Lightwright if running
  2. Open Windows Settings → Apps
  3. Find "Lightwright" in the list
  4. Click Uninstall and follow prompts
  5. Or use Control Panel → Programs and Features

Troubleshooting Installation ​

Common Issues and Solutions ​

"Cannot be opened because it is from an unidentified developer" (macOS) ​

  • Right-click the app and select Open
  • Or go to System Settings → Privacy & Security → Open Anyway

"Windows protected your PC" (Windows SmartScreen) ​

  • Click "More info"
  • Click "Run anyway"
  • This is normal for new installations

Installation Fails ​

  • Check available disk space (need at least 2 GB)
  • Temporarily disable antivirus software
  • Download installer again (may be corrupted)

Application Won't Launch ​

  • Verify system requirements are met
  • Update your operating system
  • Check for conflicting software
  • Contact support with error details

  1. Launch Lightwright and sign in
  2. Select your license
